How to reassure women on a dating app: trust, location and responses to inappropriate behaviour.

On Happn I worked on women's safety. The starting question: how can a woman feel safe on the app, when location is at the heart of the product?

The Checkup icons: see, check, refuse, warn.

The Checkup list: everything to know before getting started, on the app and outside it.

Three directions: reassure from sign-up and explain clearly what others can see, give control over location (when, where, for whom), and offer quick responses when someone behaves badly.

The result: a "Checkup", a list of points to go through before and during a date, each explained on a short screen, with an accordion component and a progress state validated in green. All in happn's identity: cream, black, lilac.

Three entries: meeting someone safely, unacceptable behaviour, useful resources.

Consent, location and getting around: explain clearly what others can see and stay in control.

Silence is not an obligation, and how you feel is a valid indicator.

Planning the first date and telling someone you trust.

Reacting: spotting a reliable profile, ending a chat, blocking or reporting, refusing to switch platform too soon.

The components: a Checkup item accordion and the progress states.
